City of Culture

Coventry is where it all began for Orbit, and we are delighted to be sponsoring Coventry City of Culture 2021.

We are incredibly proud of our roots and are fortunate enough for our head office to be based in such a culturally diverse and inspiring city.

Sponsoring Coventry City of Culture 2021 is particularly important for us, as we are passionate about making a difference, looking towards the future and empowering the people of Coventry and beyond.

Leading in what we do

Orbit leads in building thriving communities and we are very proud to be part of this event. Formed in 1967, Orbit was created by a small yet pioneering group of business people who wanted to provide more affordable, quality homes in the city.

The passion they felt about the inequality in the access, scale and quality of available housing was channelled into positive action, and Orbit was created. Five decades on, we are one of the largest builders of affordable homes, placing communities at the heart of what we do – but our roots are still firmly placed in Coventry.

Our commitment

Our commitment to our social purpose goes beyond that of a landlord and developer. As a responsible business, we are committed to improving the long-term prospects of society and the environment.

We aim to be a business fit for the future and work to build affordable homes, lessen the impact on the environment, and do business in a more socially and responsible way. Creating spaces which contribute to our customers happiness and wellbeing are part of Orbit’s mission, to lead in building thriving communities.

A vibrant vision

The City of Culture highlights this vision. We are passionate about impacting our unique, vibrant city for the better and empowering the people of Coventry and beyond. We have an appetite for innovation, practising this in our offices and communities whenever we can.

We cannot wait to see what changes, partnerships, and collaborations develop from this fantastic celebration.  The impact this will have on our city, our communities and our businesses is incredibly exciting and we are delighted to be a part of it.

Portraits of Coventry

As part of our work with Coventry City of Culture, we are proud to support ‘Portraits of Coventry’: a series of 12 paintings by award-winning Warwickshire artist, Andy Farr, depicting the lives and memories of Orbit customers based in Coventry, including others from a community based in Foleshill.

The project aims to help address potential feelings of loneliness and isolation amongst older residents and will be exhibited in Coventry and at venues within Orbit communities in Autumn 2021.
