From Graduate to Data Insight Officer

Leanne Lam joined Orbit in 2021 knowing that she wanted to work in a role that allowed her to do more for the planet and the people within it.

Leanne started her career journey in accounting, having gained her BSc in Accounting & Finance followed by work experience in accounting roles. But upon realising a path in the finance world wasn’t going to provide the fulfilment that she was looking for, Leanne took a step back and began working at a small shop to re-evaluate her future. Here, Leanne tells us more about how this desire to make a difference led her to change direction and join Orbit.

“I’ve always been passionate about the environment and helping people,” explains Leanne. “Working in the shop and interacting with customers made me realise that I enjoyed making a positive impact to people’s lives, no matter how small. So after re-evaluating my career aspirations, I decided to re-enter education and subsequently gained a MSc in Sustainable Building Technology.

“This is where my Orbit journey began, initially on a graduate programme where I gained experience in various Orbit departments, supporting team objectives, and gaining excellent feedback. In November 2022, I left the two-year programme early and gained a full-time role with the Carbon and Operations team as a Data Insight Officer.

“Since joining Orbit, I’ve particularly enjoyed liaising with residents in Orbit’s SHDF Demonstrator project, whilst delivering the social value plan for our SHDF Wave 1 projects.

“Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to act as a ‘buddy’ for our new Customer Engagement Officer to not only help her to settle into her new role, but also to instil a strong foundation rooted in passion for making a positive difference in residents’ lives.

“The opportunity to be helpful and kind towards others is what I value most, so I’m really pleased to be part of an organisation that reflects these values and constantly strives to improve as well as offer colleagues opportunities to grow and develop too.”
