Early careers

We see our graduates as leaders of the future  - so we invest a lot in this two-year programme – and in you. Whatever team  you join you’ll rotate through a series of 3-month placements – often spending a rotation in a relevant team outside your division too.

Variety and influence. As well as getting lots of responsibility in your day-to-day role, we’ll help you explore the whole of Orbit, from visiting building sites, and independent living services, to meeting our executive team and even going to a board meeting. When it comes to qualifications, these can vary depending on where you’re placed, but from becoming a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, to gaining your Masters, you’ll get qualified as you gain experience.

A big strategic project. Wherever you join us, from IT to Property Management, you’ll join all the other Graduates to tackle a big strategic project together. This year, the team has been researching how we can cut fuel poverty and carbon emissions in one stroke, with new sustainable energy solutions that deliver warm housing for all. Working with teams across Orbit, they’ve been analysing costs, appointing suppliers and running pilots, so that they can give their final recommendations to the Board.

Applications for our Graduate scheme open in February, Assessment Centres are in March/April and you’ll start in September.



In this 12 month scheme, you’ll be welcomed into a team at Orbit in an entry-level role – practically anywhere across the organisation. There, you’ll be supported by your team mates as you learn on the job – and get the chance to gain all sorts of qualifications from NVQs in housing, to CIPDs or an AAT finance certification.

As well as learning in your team, you’ll have the chance to get together with all the other Apprentices and deliver your own project. The latest? Delivering a wellbeing programme for our employees.

Our apprentices are a very varied lot. You may have just left school, or college, or may be coming to us much later on in life, looking to build new skills or find a way into work.

We take applications for our Apprentices in June, with assessment centres in July, and a September start.

Internships and work experience

We love people of all ages and from all backgrounds to join us, gaining experience and skills, contributing their ideas and sharing their unique viewpoints. It’s a very supportive and friendly place – and we’d love for you to get involved.

All placements are agreed for a fixed, limited period of time providing you with a clear snapshot of what it is like to work in a particular field.
