About Orbit … who we are

Orbit is one of the UK’s foremost housing groups creating thriving communities within a growing portfolio of over 44,500 affordable and social rent homes largely throughout the Midlands, East and South of England. We manage a portfolio of high quality, sustainable homes to over 100,000 customers in differing stages of life, from first timers to enhanced supported living. For over 50 years we’ve been a force for positive changes, particularly during the country’s continuing housing and residential challenges.

We place our customers at the heart of what we do, continually investing in our communities and creating great places to live, work and play. Our vision is to lead in building thriving communities, and we believe everyone is entitled to a good quality home that they can afford in a place that they are proud to live. We’re proud to be part of our communities and give back over £5 million each year back to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

We invest heavily in our apprentices because we want them to be the future of our business. We are looking for apprentices who are driven, hardworking and demonstrate Orbit’s values. If you want to be a part of our vision, why not join us, and apply for this exciting role?

Our Customer Services Directorate

This is customer service with a difference. Since 2013, we’ve not only looked after 45,000 homes - we’ve delivered financial, wellbeing and employment advice to 30,000 customers, helped 800 more back into work and welcomed thousands of families into a new home. We’re innovating at every turn – from our sector-leading tenancy apps, to the joined-up thinking in tackling deep-seated issues like social isolation and child poverty. Join us, and you’ll have the chance to develop in a rapidly growing team that will be supporting over 150,000 customers by 2030. At Orbit, we’ll empower you to achieve your ambitions, whilst you empower others to achieve theirs.

The Apprenticeships on offer

We are currently recruiting for three Business Administration Apprentices across our Customer Services Directorate.

One role will be based within our Independent Living Team. As a housing provider, everyone should feel safe in their own home which is why Orbit are proud to offer a range of Independent Living options. Our Independent Living schemes are for people 55 or over and offer different levels of support so people can find the home that suits them best.  Each scheme has an officer provided on-site to provide the exact assistance as and when our customers need it.

The remaining two roles sit within our Income Team who are accountable for maximising the rental income for Orbit, ensuring there is a focus for our customers on prevention and reducing their rental arrears. This includes focus on low-level debt to provide support and guidance, whilst ensuring the consequences of non-payment are understood. This is a great team to be part of and to illustrate this, the team have been nominated as Finalists in various Awards in the housing sector.

The skills we are looking for in these Apprenticeships are:

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic numeracy, literacy and communication skills.
  • Good telephone manner.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good organisational, planning and time management skills.

Our Apprenticeship Programme

In our 18-month scheme, you’ll be welcomed into these teams and be supported by your line manager and colleagues as you learn on the job. Our Apprenticeship Programme will provide you with the opportunity to gain the skills, experience, and qualifications you need to secure the job you want, whilst getting paid in full time employment. Although it is our intention to offer you a permanent role at the end of the scheme, Orbit cannot guarantee this, however, the experience and qualifications that you will have gained throughout your time with us will certainly equip you for success in securing a permanent role in your career.

You will also have the chance to work as a team with our other Apprentices and deliver your own project, having a real impact on the organisation. Our former Apprentices have delivered a wellbeing programme for our employees, whereas another Cohort implemented their own ideas on how we, as a business, can recruit, attract and retain the Generation Z workforce; both have proven to be a real success across the business.

We enable people from every background to achieve their career ambitions, giving them the support, benefits, training and environment they need to thrive at work. You may have just left school, or college, or may be coming to us later on in life, looking to re-train in a new career.
