Construction is underway at the Hawkesbury Manor site on Grange Road in Longford, where 80 affordable homes are being built following successful joint application by housing developers Orbit and Westleigh.

Due for completion in 2019, the development will offer a total of 107 properties; 47 will be available for affordable rent, 33 for shared ownership and 27 for market sale. There will be a mix of 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom homes and apartments on offer.

Rebecca Stevens, deputy head of development at Orbit, said: “We are excited to work in partnership with Westleigh to offer customers who are currently unable to buy their own home an affordable step onto the property ladder.”

Westleigh, a developer which specialises in affordable housing, is carrying out the construction work on site.

Gino Siani, Westleigh’s head of new business for the West Midlands, said: “This is an opportunity to provide a significant number of much-needed affordable homes for the city of Coventry. We are excited to be working with our partners at Orbit to bring these plans to fruition.”

The £8m development also benefitted from a grant contribution of £1,340,500 from the Homes and Communities Agency.

Celebrating 50 years as an organisation, Orbit is one of the UK’s largest developing housing associations building around 1,700 homes a year.
