Orbit, in partnership with the Institute of Residential Property Management (IRPM) is delighted to announce the launch of a new leasehold qualification for professionals working in the housing association sector.

The course will focus on property management and the aim of the programme is to give participants a strong operational foundation from which to grow and develop their property management career in either the public or private sector. The qualification is the first of its kind in housing and is recognition that good management of its housing stock is a key constituent of delivering high quality homes to customers.

Initially, Orbit will be putting 25 employees forward for the qualification which consists of a one-year study programme, followed by a three month real-life project to test the participant’s learning. The programme is based on and builds on good operational management processes to ensure that the outcomes give participants the skills they need to carry out their roles more effectively. There are plans to roll the programme out to other housing providers in the future.

Martin Chuter, Director of Property Management at Orbit says; “We are so pleased that this new qualification has come to fruition and that we are in a position to be putting forward our first employees to take part. We look forward to seeing them develop their knowledge so that they will be able to bring those skills back into the business and then for the programme to be rolled out across the sector, bringing much needed consistency to the industry.”

Kevin Fairless, Head of Qualifications at the IRPM, said: “The IRPM recognises the importance of continuing education to keep up with the use of technology and regulatory changes, means that a whole new range of challenges and opportunities have arisen. As an industry we need to equip our people with the knowledge and skills to cultivate these opportunities, while mitigating against risk. The IRPM are pleased to have worked closely with Orbit and endorse this leasehold qualification as a valuable learning experience.”
