Orbit employees have volunteered to plant hundreds of trees

Volunteers from Orbit branched out to learn new skills when they took part in tree planting – and what better day to show their love for the planet, than on Valentine’s Day?

Around 35 volunteers from one of the country’s largest housing groups put their heart (and soul) into supporting the environment and swapping their offices for the great outdoors at two locations on 14 February.

They attended the volunteering at the Heart of England Forest near Aston Cantlow in Warwickshire and at Allington Open Space in Maidstone in Kent.

As part of its Building Communities Programme, Orbit encourages each employee to participate in eight hours of volunteering.

Simon Lieberman, Investment and Commissioning Manager with Orbit’s Community Investment team, explained: “Our volunteering programme has become very popular with employees who want to put something back into the communities they work with.  This has ranged from working in a food bank, litter picking and tree planting and since 1 July we have volunteered nearly 2,000 hours.”
