Orbit celebrates topping out at St Anne’s Quarter development

Orbit celebrated reaching its highest point of build at St Anne’s Quarter with a symbolic topping out ceremony at its riverfront location.

The housing developer was joined by its project contractors, including global construction services company ISG and representatives from Norwich City Council, to mark the development milestone by pouring locally brewed and specially named Redwell’s St Anne’s Quarter ale from the highest block, following tradition in the sector stemming from Scandinavian custom.

Dave Moorcroft, director of regeneration and development for Norwich City Council, said: “We’re delighted to see progress on this new and ambitious development in Norwich.

“We especially welcome the restoration of the Grade II* listed Howard House which was previously on our heritage at risk register.

“St Anne’s Quarter is further evidence of growing investor confidence in Norwich. We look forward to the completion of this exciting scheme which will increase the vitality of this area as well as improve the environment and access of King Street.”

Ian Fieldhouse, regional director for the east at Orbit said: “We are proud to be developing a site that has stood empty for so many years into a high-quality, residential-led quarter transforming the area into a brand new community in the heart of the city.

“While we are breathing new life into the area we are invested in restoring and honouring its rich history where possible. Our King Street location was home to many famous breweries for over 400 years so it was perfect to have the support of local brewers to carry out the traditional ceremony.

“Today marks a great milestone in the progress of St Anne’s Quarter. Our sales and marketing suite is now open too and I’m pleased to share that our very first customers are set to move in later this summer while the site continues to deliver homes over the next four years.”

Nathan McNamara, ISG’s divisional director for Engineering Services in the east of the UK said: “Today’s topping out ceremony is not only an important milestone for the team delivering this fantastic project, but also an opportunity to celebrate a new chapter in Norwich’s history.

“We are dedicated to delivering places that help people and businesses to thrive, and are proud of our long-standing partnership with Orbit.

“I would like to congratulate the project team for their hard work in helping us reach today’s milestone at St Anne’s Quarter.”

Once complete, St Anne’s Quarter will offer over 400 studio, one and two bedroom apartments for outright sale, private rent, affordable rent and shared ownership.
