Customers at Caesar Court, one of Orbit’s flagship independent living with care housing schemes in Deal, Kent, have raised £560 by hosting a Cupcake Day event in support of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The event, held on Wednesday 12 June, was attended by customers and the public and consisted of a homemade cupcake, tea and coffee sale. There was also a raffle.
Customer Sue Gable said; “I think it was well organised and well supported. It was lovely to see care staff and restaurant staff involved too. I thought it was beautiful.”
Did you know that in the average time it takes to bake a batch of cupcakes, six people in the UK will develop dementia? It is now the leading cause of death in England and Wales, overtaking both cancer and heart disease. Cupcake Day events help to fund pioneering research, crucial support services and vital care.
Caesar Court comprises 81 one and two bedroom apartments, which were made available through a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership. The scheme is owned and managed by Orbit and has become a real hub for the local community, with a number of its facilities being open to the public, including: a hairdressers, café and restaurant.
