Not-for-profit housing group, Orbit, recently welcomed Folkestone and Hythe MP, Tony Vaughan KC, to take a tour of Dawsons Green, where it’s delivering 77 new affordable homes to boost the availability of affordable homes in the local area.
In partnership with Chartway, Orbit is bringing new two and three-bedroom homes for social rent and Shared Ownership at Dawsons Green. 35 of the homes are for social rent, with 42 available for purchase with Shared Ownership.
During the visit, Tony was shown how construction is progressing and heard about Orbit Homes’ tenure-blind approach to the development. This means that all new homes at Dawsons Green benefit from the same commitment to Orbit’s exceptional new-build design, safety and customer service standards, regardless of tenure.
Orbit and Chartway colleagues also shared more about how the homes have been designed to minimise their environmental impact and support customers with energy efficiency. Tony also heard about the development’s plans for two dedicated public open spaces, including a play area, to promote wellbeing in the new community.
On the tour, Tony also cut the ribbon to officially open the new three-bedroom show home at Dawsons Green.
Dawsons Green is located off Caesar’s Way in Folkestone, at a former brickworks site that had been derelict for decades.
Tony Vaughan KC, MP for Folkestone and Hythe, said: “It was great to see first-hand how Orbit is working in partnership with Chartway to provide much-needed new affordable homes for the local area and it was interesting to hear more about the development’s sustainability features. I’m excited to see the site continue to progress.”
Brian Nearney, Chief Development Officer at Orbit, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Tony to Dawsons Green to show him how the development is progressing and mark the opening of our new show home here. It was great to share more about how we’re working alongside Chartway to bring quality new affordable homes for social rent and Shared Ownership that support the local housing need in the area.”
Graham Chivers, CEO at Chartway, added: “We were excited to share our progress alongside Orbit at Dawsons Green with Tony on this tour of the site. Dawsons Green not only supports our commitment to creating sustainable new communities but reinforces our passion for working together with organisations like Orbit to deliver much-needed new affordable homes locally.”
