Plans for a £14.5million residential development of 70 new homes on the site of the former Laleham Gap school in Cliftonville, Margate have been announced.

Developing housing association Orbit, has acquired the land to build a mix of two, three and four bedroom high-quality homes for sale, shared ownership and affordable rent.
Within walking distance of the Turner Contemporary art centre, the development is a continuation of regeneration plans in the town and will bring 48 homes to the open market, as well as 15 homes available for shared ownership and seven for affordable rent.
Shina Olalekan, deputy head of development, Orbit, said: “Our proposals demonstrate Orbit’s commitment to investing in and building communities. This development will create more housing options and provide quality homes to meet people’s needs and aspirations.”
Orbit is expected to begin work on site by the end of the year following discharge of planning conditions. The housing association has also received a grant contribution of £490,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency.
The first homes will be available in late 2018 and will be delivered in partnership with McCulloch Homes.

Funds for the expansion of Cliftonville primary school are included in the £230,000 section 106 developer contribution which also covers includes youth and library services, community learning and social care.
