Orbit is pleased to announce the appointment of John Carleton as executive director of property investment.

John is a highly skilled housing development and regeneration professional, with over 30 years’ experience in creating and implementing successful investment strategies across both private and public sectors.

He has extensive experience within the sector and until recently held the position of executive director of markets at Genesis Homes Ltd, providing leadership for its portfolio of 33,000 homes across 85 local authorities, and all associated activities.

John has been closely involved in developing and promoting best practice in regeneration, as well as working on many major regeneration projects for organisations including Genesis, the Housing Corporation and PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC).

Mark Hoyland, interim chief executive at Orbit, said: “We are delighted to welcome John to Orbit. The experience he brings to this role and the organisation will be key in helping us to deliver our 2020 ambitions as we continue to develop thousands of homes to meet the needs and aspirations of customers.”

Orbit Homes (2020) Ltd was established in 2009 as the development and sales division of Orbit. Celebrating 50 years as an organisation, Orbit recently reported record growth having developed 1,788 new homes across its operating areas in the last financial year.

John will be responsible for ensuring Orbit continues to grow its development pipeline and land bank as it looks to achieve its 2020 target of 12,000 homes.

He said: “Housing associations can play a critical role in bridging the gap between the public and private sector. It is vital Orbit continues to work in partnership with local and combined authorities, to build sustainable communities and tackle the housing shortage.”
