Orbit community investment apprentice, Kelly Reynolds, has been named Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Apprentice of the Year for the eastern region.
Orbit community investment apprentice, Kelly Reynolds, has been named Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Apprentice of the Year for the eastern region.
The CIH apprenticeship awards recognise individuals who have exceeded expectations and made a difference to their organisation.
Kelly was chosen as the winner following her outstanding contribution to Orbit since joining the organisation in October 2015. In this time Kelly has overcome a series of personal barriers to successfully complete her NVQ level two in business administration, helping her to deliver and monitor Orbit’s Community Investment grant programme.
In addition to this Kelly helps to coordinate Orbit’s annual Brian Griffiths awards, supporting customers to develop their dreams and aspirations.
On accepting the award, Kelly said: “This hasn’t been an easy journey for me, when I first started as an apprentice at Orbit the simple act of calling a customer would leave me feeling stressed and anxious.
“However, through the support and mentoring I’ve received from the team, I now feel that I have the confidence to tackle tasks that are out of my comfort zone. I am now realty excited to take part new opportunities that lie ahead.”
Following news of the Apprenticeship Levy, Orbit has plans to recruit ten new apprentices into various roles across the business later this year. This will help to provide a ladder of opportunity for others just like Kelly, who want to develop their skills and experience within housing.
Community investment officer, Fiona Sharp said: “Congratulations to Kelly for her
well-deserved success in this year’s CIH Apprentice of the Year awards. Kelly is an integral part of our team. She has a positive outlook, strong determination and courage which is extremely admirable, helping her to overcome challenges and achieve her goals.”
Kelly has been automatically shortlisted for the National Apprentice of the Year Award, which is due to be announced at the annual CIH conference in Manchester on 26 June.
