A breakfast club which provides schoolchildren with a free breakfast at the start of their school day is proving to be a great success.
Schoolchildren at Lighthorne Heath Primary School have received over 1,500 free healthy breakfasts so far, with the choice of toast, cereal, fruit and yoghurt after the club was set up with the help of local housing group Orbit and the Greggs Foundation.

Lisa Clifton, Associate Head Teacher said: “The club has got off to a great start and is proving very beneficial to many of our children from both an educational and social perspective, as well as directly improving their punctuality and attendance.
“We always encourage a healthy breakfast as it is important to boost concentration so the club is a very important part of the day.”

“At Orbit, we are passionate about building thriving communities so the next step for us at Lighthorne Heath Primary School is to encourage parents and carers to get involved and come along to the club.”
The scheme will run for two years and is designed to provide a simple, nutritious breakfast to children in primary schools, typically with over 40% free school meals in disadvantaged areas.
Members of Orbit’s specialist employment team will also be attending the breakfast clubs to offer parents and carers advice on training, skills and employment and its Better Days programme.
