One of Orbit’s graduate trainees has been shortlisted for an award by the Chartered institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
Procurement Business Partner, Emily Rogers (25) has been shortlisted in the Young Talent category, which recognises the most influential up and coming procurement talent across the country. The CIPS Excellence in Procurement Awards aim to reward and honour the entire procurement and supply chain profession.
Emily joined Orbit as a Graduate Trainee in October 2016, three months after graduating from the University of Kent with a 2:1 degree in Law.
After completing a multi-department rotation within Orbit, Emily chose to pursue a career in Procurement. In November 2018, she started her role as Procurement Business Partner.
Since joining Procurement, Emily has completed her Level 4 Diploma and Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply and is now working towards her Level 6. Once she is awarded this later in the year, she will then become a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS).
Some of Emily’s most notable achievements during her time at Orbit have included influencing the move to 100% renewable electricity across Orbit’s portfolio. Without this switch, Orbit’s Carbon Footprint* would have been 41% higher, whilst realising significant savings for customers at a time where the housing sector had a spotlight on fuel poverty.
Emily has also worked hard to raise the profile of procurement across Orbit. She has implemented and delivered a number of training courses for internal colleagues, to promote procurement, raise awareness and drive employee compliance across the business.
Commenting on her time at Orbit and being nominated for the award, Emily said: “I joined Orbit in November 2016 as graduate trainee. After completing a multi department rotation I chose Procurement as the career I wanted to pursue because of the role it plays in ensuring our customers’ safety and well-being, procurement and contract management has a direct impact on our mission of ‘leading in building thriving communities’ by ensuring high quality services with excellent VFm.
“I love working in housing because of the social purpose and the affinity I have towards this, so helping to support the overall satisfaction of our customers appealed to me whole-heartedly. I am delighted to be nominated for this award and look forward to hearing about the other influential up and coming procurement talent who have been nominated.”
In addition to her role as Procurement Business Partner, Emily is also an Employee Ambassador. This role represents employees on all employee-related issues, ensuring that Orbit is a great place to work for everyone. The Ambassadors focus on a wide range of activities such as, business and project updates, social and engagement events and wellbeing.
Emily also sits on the Health and Safety Committee and is trained as a Mental Health First Aider as part of Orbit’s ‘Healthy Minds’ campaign.

The second stage of judging for this award will be an interview with the judging panel on Thursday 9th July. The winners will then be announced live at the digital awards ceremony on Wednesday 16th September.
