Orbit’s Bluebells development wins building excellence award

Orbit’s brand-new collection of much-needed affordable homes in Suffolk, has won a national building excellence award.

The new Bluebells development has been announced as the regional winner in the Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development category in the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2020.

The Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Awards celebrate achievements in the construction industry. They reward excellent buildings, outstanding companies, as well as partnerships and individuals that go the extra mile.

Orbit is one of the UK’s leading housing groups with a growing portfolio of over 45,000 affordable and social rent homes largely throughout the Midlands, East and South of England. Bluebells was developed in partnership East Suffolk Council, Reydon Parish Council and Suffolk-based developer Wellington, who specialise in residential and commercial development, as well as affordable housing. 

The housing development is a collection of 23, two and three-bedroom properties, located in the village of Reydon, a beautiful semi-rural location situated close to Southwold on the Suffolk coast.

Bluebells is located on Green Lane and consists of 15 houses, four flats and four bungalows. Of the 23 homes, 17 are affordable rent and six are shared ownership.

All of Bluebells’ residences have been designed with energy-efficiency in mind, helping to reduce customer energy bills and lessen the environmental impact. The properties have a great specification, are attractively designed, thoroughly modern and built to an excellent standard. The development also has an open green space for residents to enjoy as well as plenty of parking available.

The new homes have now been occupied, with priority being given to those who have a connection with Reydon village and adjoining parishes.
