Orbit helps Warwickshire school children plant Coronation trees

Primary school children in Warwickshire have planted trees to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, with help from housing association Orbit.

A team of 24 children and four teachers from Wellesbourne CE Primary School planted two silver birch trees, provided by Orbit, in the grounds of the school.

David March, Head of Environmental Sustainability at Orbit, and this team, helped the children by digging holes for the two trees and installing commemorative plaques to mark the occasion.

He said: “At Orbit we’re passionate about sustainability, which is why we were delighted to facilitate this event for the children at Wellesbourne CE Primary School. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to get involved in tree planting, learn about the environment and benefit from spending time outdoors. The planting is a great way to introduce children to the importance of biodiversity and I’m sure they’ll enjoy seeing them grow over the coming years. I would like to thank everyone for their effort and enthusiasm – a great day was had by all!”.

Jess Perry, Co-ordinator at Wellesbourne CE Primary School, added: “The children have loved learning about King Charles III in lessons and were thrilled to be part of the team planting trees at each of our sites. Orbit have been fantastic with organising the event and were great at leading the children –  they loved being so involved and have learnt a lot! The rest of the school were also very interested and excited to see our new trees and plaques on our fields. Thank you to all that were involved in the process!”

The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort took place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023.
