Councillor Christine Catterall, Mayor of Bexley, has joined residents of a local independent living scheme to celebrate its fresh new look.
Local not-for-profit housing provider, Orbit, who own Sherwood House – an independent living scheme for people aged 55 and over in Erith, have refurbished the scheme with the help of its professional interior designers, who also design for Orbit Homes, Orbit’s housebuilding arm.
The renovations include new furniture, furnishings, artwork and bespoke joinery, as well as new signage, luxury vinyl flooring throughout, and a new-look hobbies space for residents featuring a new dartboard and dining area. Lighting in the communal lounge has also been replaced with LEDs which are more energy and cost efficient.
Jemma Rich, Later Living Regional Lead at Orbit, said: “We want our residents to have safe, comfortable homes in modern schemes that they are proud to live in. Our schemes are specifically designed with both current and future residents’ needs in mind, and we hope that the refurbishments at Sherwood House have created a new-look, homely space that residents can also enjoy alongside their friends, family and the wider community like today.”
Councillor Christine Catterall, Mayor of Bexley, added: “It’s so important for older people to have high quality, modern schemes like this that help them to live comfortably and independently. The new features look brilliant and I’m grateful to the residents of Sherwood House and Orbit for inviting me along to join in their celebrations.”
Pam Kinner, a resident at Sherwood House, commented: “The refurbishment is lovely and we’re really enjoying using the new, more modern communal areas. I can’t wait for my family and friends to see it all on their next visit.”
